About the city:
Athens, the capital of Greece, is a large and modern city with approximately 4 million inhabitants. It is situated in the eastern mainland of Greece, extending over a plain and surrounded by three mountains: Pendeli at the northeast, Parnitha at the north and Ymittos at the east. As far as its history is concerned, Athens was considered to be the intellectual and artistic center of Greece. It is the city where democracy, philosophy, literature, science, art and drama were developed during the 5th century B.C. Athenians, are not only proud for the city's history, but for their vibrant lifestyle, enthusiasm and hospitality. There are remarkable museums and archeological sites that tourists can visit. Additionally, there are restaurants and taverns with Greek traditional cuisine. Moreover, there are clubs, pubs and bars that can present you the genuine Greek nightlife.
The National Technical University of Athens, founded in 1836, is among the oldest higher education institutions of Greece and the most prestigious among engineering schools. It consists of nine academic faculties, some related to engineering (e.g. civil, electrical & computer, chemical, mechanical) and some others related to architecture and general sciences. Particularly, the school of Mechanical Engineering has six sections, the duration of the degree is 5 years and it offers (among others) a specialization of air and ground transport vehicles. Concerning aircraft and aerospace engineering, a significant industry is:
- The Hellenic Aerospace Industry S.A (founded in 1975) which specializes in aircraft and engines maintenance, electronics, aero structures manufacturing and other relevant applications.
