About the city:
Milano is the second largest city in Italy and the main italian centre for business and industry. Because of its position, the city has always been a crossroad between southern and central Europe. The city, including suburbs, is made up by about two million inhabitants. Six universities are in the city.
Milano is very near to the area where major italian aeronautical industries developed since the beginning of 20th century; many aerospace companies, such as AgustaWestland, Aermacchi, Alcatel Alenia Space, Galileo Avionica and Carlo Gavazzi Space, have their facilities in the city and its surroundings.
Politecnico di Milano is the largest technical university in Italy, providing courses in every field of engineering, architecture and industrial design for about 40,000 students. The department of aerospace engineering is engaged in many research and experimental activieties and collaborates with major italian aerospace companies. Research facilities include mechanical workshops, a wind tunnel and a crash test facility.
