About the City:
Aachen is the city where the idea of Euroavia originated from and where it was founded back in 1959.
It is the westernmost city in Germany, located near the borders with Belgium and the Netherlands, 61 km west south west of Cologne in a former coal-mining area. One of Germany's leading institutes of higher education in technology, the RWTH Aachen University is located in the city. Its population numbers around 250.000 citizens, 50.000 of them being students! Aachen's industries include science, engineering and information technology. In 2009, Aachen was ranked eighth among cities in Germany for innovation. It unites tradition with progress. The great Holy Roman Emperor, Charlemagne, has left his mark throughout the city. The cathedral - the first monument in Germany to be included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage list - and the gothic City Hall in which 32 German kings celebrated their coronations still form the heart of Aachen’s old city centre.
About the University and Faculty:
RWTH Aachen University or Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen is a research university located close to the centre of Aachen. Compared to other German universities the portion of international students at the RWTH Aachen is higher-than-average.

Internationally, in the 2018 QS Faculty Rankings RWTH Aachen is placed 23 for Mechanical Engineering.
About the Local Group:
Being one of the founding members of Euroavia, AS Aachen (which bears the name of fore-mentioned Theodore von Kármán) was founded in 1959 and remained active member since then. Currently we have over 50 members and more than 60 alumnis. Most of them are studying mechanical and aerospace engineering. On the local level we regularly organise official meetings and somewhat “less-official” get-togethers. Often do we organise visits to different companies like DLR, airports and air-shows. The last international event organised in Aachen was the Fly In back in 2014.
