About the Local Group
The local group in Munich was founded in 1985 and has existed since then. Currently, we count around 40 members, most of them studying Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering at TUM. There are more than 70 alumni, some of them still living and working in the Munich area. We organise visits to the many companies in the area (MBDA, IABG, Airbus, OHB, MTAerospace, DLR, etc.), workshops and social events. At our monthly "Stammtisch" (get-together) we discuss all the important issues in our society and university while also having fun. The last international event taking place in Munich was the Fly-In 2015.
About the University / Faculty
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) was founded in 1868 and is today one of the top research universities in Germany. With 40,000 students it's in the top 10 of the biggest universities in Germany. It is a member of TU9, an incorporated society of the largest and most notable German institutes of technology. There are three campuses in the greater Munich area: the Main Campus where you can study e.g. architecture, electrical engineering and medicine; Garching where the faculties for chemistry, physics, informatics and mechanical engineering are located; Weihenstephan for the TUM School of Life Sciences.
About the City
Munich (German: München, Bavarian: Minga) is the capital of the state of Bavaria, located in the south east of Germany. It is perfectly situated near the Alps, is surrounded by a couple of major lakes and has the river Isar running through it. One of the biggest urban parks in Europe, the "Englischer Garten", is a perfect spot in the summer for jogging, cycling, swimming and even surfing, or just having a BBQ. Pictured is the old city centre with the city hall and the "Frauenkirche", Munich's landmark church with it's distinct two towers (inspiration for our logo). With 1.45 Mio inhabitants (and 120,000 students) it is the third biggest German city after Berlin and Hamburg. Munich is probably most famous for its many beer halls and gardens, perfect for a relaxed evening or night out with friends. And of course there is the "Oktoberfest" (or as we call it: "Wiesn"). For 3 weeks at the end of September more than 6 million people visit the beer festival and fun fair.
